On Friday, a judge handed Langdell a life sentence and told him that having sex with Locke’s dead body “increased the depravity of the murder.” The judge told him: “I am firmly of the view that you pose a very great danger to women and young girls with whom you come into contact in the future and I note that you have described yourself to others as a monster and a psychopath because of what you did to Katie Locke.” The sicko had previously tortured the victim’s family by refusing to confirm her final moments — or explain the motive for his horrific attack.St Albans crown court on Thursday heard Langdell had confessed to raping her dead body and taking pictures on his phone before using a laundry trolley to dump the corpse on the grounds of a hotel. On Friday he was warned he may never be released from jail.
Sick fantastist Langdell lured innocent Katie Locke to a meeting via the website Plenty of Fish.
Langdell claimed on his Linked In page that he was social secretary for Cardiff University’s Athletics Union and captain of the golf team, the judge heard.
He also said he had begun a postgraduate law course at the BPP University Law School — but the school had no record of his attendance.
Prosecutor Ann Evans said: “The tragedy of this case is that Katie Locke, like thousands of other young people, having agreed to a date with Carl Langdell, accepted what he told her about himself.
“At the end of their first date in the early hours of 24 December last year, she agreed to go back to a hotel with him, he strangled her in that hotel room and then dumped her body near a skip [dumpster] outside the hotel.” Katie’s heartbroken parents, Bill and Jennifer, confronted Langdell, who had sat in the dock sobbing. Locke broke down when she read a victim impact statement.
